Having spent decades in software, one thing continues to surprise me: every time we think we’ve reached a plateau, our vision expands.
During my conversations with the guests I learned that we don’t just build software faster—we gain a deeper understanding of where software can create meaningful value.
AI is the latest catalyst, but the bigger story is that our industry’s imagination keeps growing alongside our capabilities. That combination makes me optimistic that software’s most significant contributions are still ahead of us.
Mazy explained how web browsers have evolved since the late 1990s and why productivity and security challenges are becoming even more urgent in the AI era. We also discussed the value of a work-specific browser and why entrepreneurs need to deeply understand the pain points they’re solving.

Mazy shared that one decision he would have made differently was offering the product as an SDK instead of building a fully turnkey SaaS browser sooner. While customers initially wanted the flexibility to build and customize their own browser, he later realized the complexity of compliance, regulation, and ongoing maintenance made a “browser that just works” far more valuable.
Bill and I discussed whether agentic AI can replace traditional software, how it may affect SaaS teams, and what startups need to do to stay relevant. We also talked about the rising value of product management, whether software businesses are getting easier to build, and how AI is changing marketing and product selection.

Bill shared that one of the best business decisions he made was during the 2008 financial crisis, when his company needed to cut $4 million from the budget. Instead of cutting people based only on performance, they eliminated a future-facing project that was not yet creating customer value, allowing them to protect the core business and preserve customer relationships.
